La Vicalanda Gran Reserva is only made from exceptional vintages that will be able to ensure the high level of quality required by this brand. Grapes are selected from the Vicuana Alta, Cuervo 7 and Zaco vineyards, which are located in a privileged position that is ideal for obtaining the best Tempranillo grapes. This gives the wine a fuller, richer body, making it balanced and warm to the taste with complex finish.

Winemaking
Gentle destemming and crushing, vatting and fermentation with prolonged maceration. All in all, a total of two years ageing in lightly toasted, Allier French oak Bordeaux barrels (225l) – of which 50% were new and the rest one-year-old. Minimum 3 years of aging in Bordeaux bottles. The Vicalanda Gran Reserva embodies the winery’s maximum expression and savoir faire. Careful aging in oak and bottles gives the Tempranillo maturity, finesse and elegance whilst respecting the identity of this insignia appellation.

Viticulture
La Vicalanda is harvested from vineyards located in a privileged enclave inside the Haro Municipality (RiojaAlta) on our best estates, Zaco, Cuervo 4, and Vicuana. The majority of these vineyards are south facing with optimum sun exposure which helps the berries to ripen more intensely. The soils are poor, limy, gravelly, deep and well drained soils. The vine plots are planted in goblets and cultivated using sustainable agriculture practices. Vineyards planted 40 years ago with yields that do not surpass 3,500 kg/ha and are hand-harvested in crates.
